The medical faculty of Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Kashov has existed for 70 years. Since 1948, over 12,000 doctors have been trained there. The international and Europe-wide recognised English-language course of study has been in existence since 1992 and currently enables students from over 40 different countries to start the 6-year course of study in medicine there.

The university's teaching building is located right next to the university hospital, which provides a unique and practical education.

Pavol Jozef Šafarik University in Kashov

To pass a semester in the degree programme, it is necessary to achieve at least 30 ECTS points (so-called credit points). Students earn these by successfully passing various examinations in different subjects with different ECTS point allocations.

Studying at the medical university in Kashaw involves a tightly timed curriculum with small weekly tests to keep students up to date and encourage them. Thanks to the small groups of approx. 10 students per group, students experience a unique and very practice-orientated course of study with very good Contact to the teaching professors and doctors. Only the lectures are held jointly for all students.

A frequent concern of our future students is learning the Slovak language. All teaching and study in human medicine and dentistry at the medical university in Kaschau is exclusively in English. However, it is important for students to find their way around in their new place of study in addition to their everyday studies and to be able to talk to patients in the hospital later on. For this reason, Slovak is taught in the first two years.

Studying in English is a huge advantage, not only because you will have the opportunity to work as a doctor anywhere in the world in the future, but also because it will be much easier for you to follow current medical topics during your studies, as these are usually published in English first. Through partnerships with other international medical faculties, students of the Medical University in Kashov have the opportunity to broaden their horizons and, if necessary, to spend a semester abroad at another university.

Entrance test at Pavol Jozef Šafarik University

At the entrance examination of Pavol Jozef Šafarik University in Kashau you have to master a total of 1200 questions (600 biology; 600 chemistry) in English, of which 200 questions are asked at the entrance examination and are tested by means of a written multiple-choice system.

Of the 200 questions, 100 are from the subject area of biology and 100 are from the area of chemistry. You can learn these questions in advance, as we will also provide you with the necessary documents. We offer you the possibility to prepare for the test via our e-learning platform.

To pass the test, you need to study hard enough. Košice is the second largest city in Slovakia with a population of around 240,000. The capital of culture, named in 2013, is located in the east of Slovakia and is crossed by the Hernach River and borders on the Slovak Ore Mountains. Ruzin is a reservoir on the Hernach River where, among other things, various water sports are offered. There are several hiking opportunities in the surrounding region, including the Sivec (781m high), which offers a breathtaking panorama of the reservoir.

The botanical garden on the "red mountain" was opened in 1950 and presents over 4000 different plant species. Košice is also home to the largest zoo in Central Europe. Visitors can see over 100 different animal species. One of the special features of the zoo is its own herd of Hutsul horses.

The Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice, founded in 1948, has a long tradition in medical education and is one of the best universities in Slovakia. The Faculty of Medicine is internationally recognised and has been offering an English-language degree course in human medicine since 1992. The university offers degree programmes in human medicine and dentistry. These are taught entirely in English. The human medicine programme lasts six years and ends with the degree MUDr. (medicinae universae doctor), comparable to the Dr. med. univ. in Austria. In each semester, students must collect 30 ECTS points by passing examinations in various subjects. Teaching takes place in small groups, which enables close supervision by professors and doctors. In the first two years, international students also learn Slovakian to help them find their way in everyday life and in the clinical environment.

The entrance exam consists of a multiple-choice test with 200 questions, 100 of which are from biology and 100 from chemistry.
