Medical studies in Prague
(Second Faculty of Medicine Prague)

The Second Faculty of Medicine is located on the grounds of the University Hospital in Motol, where most of the clinical teaching takes place with both paediatric and adult patients.

The integration into one of the largest and most modern hospitals in Europe makes it possible to offer comprehensive training in all medical fields, enriched with expertise in specialised areas of paediatrics.

The theoretical courses are mainly taught at the new campus at Plzenska 311. The Department of Anatomy and its autopsy rooms, which were completed in 2019, are the newest and largest in the Czech Republic and are equipped with state-of-the-art technology. Our low student-to-faculty ratio creates an intimate faculty where the atmosphere is almost family-like. We offer the study of general medicine to students from all over the world in English as the language of instruction. The faculty is easily accessible by transport within the metropolis and is close to the international airport.

More information

Second Faculty of Medicine, Charles University

Charles University, founded in 1348, is one of the oldest universities in Europe. The Faculty of Medicine has been part of Charles University since its foundation. The Second Faculty of Medicine became independent in 1953 as the Faculty of Paediatrics. Therefore, the focus is traditionally on developmental aspects of medicine and paediatric disciplines, however, we offer full training in both adult and paediatric medicine. The programme lasts six years and graduates are awarded the MD degree.

  • According to the QS World University Rankings 2024, Charles University is among the 250 best universities in the world, i.e. among the elite 1.5 per cent, and is number one in the Czech Republic.

  • According to the International Council for the Evaluation of Creative Activities (2021), research in paediatric haematology and oncology is one of the university's flagships in biomedical research, and numerous clinical institutes are among the top universities.

  • The degree is recognised in Germany, Austria and other countries of the European Union as well as outside Europe.

Accreditation by the Medical Board of California makes it easier for our graduates to work in the United States. The Second Faculty is one of the smaller faculties. The favourable faculty-to-student ratio of 1:2 (in the English-language programme) and an individual approach improve the quality of teaching. As an international student, you basically know all your colleagues, so you can count on friendliness and support within the group.

As a student of the Second Faculty, you can choose from a variety of study exchange programmes and internships abroad. You can spend a semester or the entire academic year at one of our partner universities in Europe and worldwide; complete a practical internship in hospitals and medical institutes worldwide; or participate in humanitarian medical missions. Pre-graduate students can also participate in the research of our faculty, both in theoretical and clinical subjects (basic and applied research).

Admission procedure at the second medical faculty in Prague

In order to realise your dream of studying medicine abroad at Charles University Prague in the Czech Republic, you have to overcome one last hurdle: Because before the university allocates study places, you must have successfully passed the entrance exam as admission. The entrance exam (as a multiple choice test) contains questions from biology, chemistry and physics, as well as some additional "logic questions". The content of the entrance test does not exceed the content of a complete secondary school education in the subjects of biology, chemistry and physics.

If it's been a while since you went to school, or if you didn't take one of the two subjects in the upper school, don't worry. In our video courses, we have prepared the required learning content for biology, chemistry and physics in a didactic and easy-to-understand way. In addition, we offer you the opportunity to take sample entrance tests. In this way, you can see how well you are likely to do before you take the actual test. Based on these test results, you will know whether you are sufficiently prepared or whether you should repeat our courses.

There is also a personal interview at Charles University in Prague after you have passed the scientific entrance test.

In addition, we organise preparatory courses every year that are tailored to the entrance test at Charles University. This way, you can take the exam in Prague under the best possible conditions. The entrance exams are organised by futuredoctor together with Charles University in Prague. The exams take place several times a year at different locations in Germany (e.g. in Regensburg, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt) and Austria (usually in Vienna).

Studying medicine abroad without numerus clausus and with a specialised baccalaureate

Unlike in Germany, Charles University in Prague allows anyone to study medicine (human medicine or dentistry) without an NC. This means that your previous grade point average is not relevant for a study place. In addition, you currently have the opportunity to study medicine in the Czech Republic even with a vocational baccalaureate.
