The 6-year programme consists of 10 semesters and one year of pre-state internship. Students have access to state-of-the-art facilities such as Blackboard (a virtual learning programme), virtual 3D anatomical models and clinical facilities in Varna and surrounding areas, including hospitals and medical centres. Due to its strong tradition in research and education, the university can offer students a practical education in Bulgarian as well as in English. It attracts a large number of international students due to its English-language branch of study. The Medical University of Varna is recognised by the Bulgarian government and the World Health Organization and offers its graduates the opportunity to pursue their careers anywhere in the European Union, the European Economic Area, Australia and beyond.

This medical degree programme is particularly attractive for German students who prefer to study medicine in English, who cannot get a place in Germany or who want to study in an international environment. The option to study in English also makes it easier to work in an international work environment after graduation.

Requirements for studying at the Medical University in Varna


To be admitted to a degree programme at the Medical University of Varna, applicants must meet certain requirements. These include tests in chemistry and biology, where applicants have to answer questions from different categories. These questions include multiple-choice questions, gap-filling questions, matching questions, true/false questions, and definitions and explanations. The tests last 1 hour and 30 minutes each and can take place on one or different days during the application period. It is important to note that no points will be deducted for wrong answers, but if candidates tick more than one answer, they will not receive points for that question.

The tests in chemistry and biology consist of a total of five sections, each containing different tasks.
Section A consists of multiple-choice questions where candidates have to choose one of four answers. Section B contains gap-filling questions where candidates have to fill in four missing words or terms. In section C, candidates have to match terms from column 1 with those in column 2. Section D contains true/false questions where candidates have to evaluate whether the statement is true or false. Finally, Section E contains definitions and explanations where students have to explain chemical or biological concepts and provide examples where appropriate.
