Contents & structure of the medical degree programme in Zagreb
The Humanmedizinstudium at the University of Zagreb is classically divided into three large sections, which are built up over six years:
1st - 2nd year of study: The foundation phase
The first two years of the programme focus on the basics of medicine. You will deal intensively with:
Anatomy - including dissection courses
Physiology and biochemistry
Medical ethics and communication
At the same time, you will take part in skills labs, learn how to use equipment and complete your first clinical practice tutorials.
3rd-4th year of study: The clinical orientation phase
In the middle of your degree programme, you will delve deeper into the clinical disciplines:
Internal medicine, Chirurgie, Gynaecology and paediatrics are the focus
Practical exercises take place directly in the partner clinics of the University of Zagreb
The aim is to combine theory with real patient situations - under the supervision of doctors and teaching staff.
5th-6th year of study: The specialisation and in-depth phase
In the final stage of your studies, the focus is on specialisation and preparation for starting your career:
You take electives according to your interests, for example in Dermatologyneurology or Oncology

During this phase, you will also complete your studies with the title of Medical Doctor (MD).
