Contents & structure of the medical degree programme in Zagreb

The Humanmedizinstudium at the University of Zagreb is classically divided into three large sections, which are built up over six years:

1st - 2nd year of study: The foundation phase

The first two years of the programme focus on the basics of medicine. You will deal intensively with:

  • Anatomy - including dissection courses

  • Physiology and biochemistry

  • Medical ethics and communication

At the same time, you will take part in skills labs, learn how to use equipment and complete your first clinical practice tutorials.

3rd-4th year of study: The clinical orientation phase

In the middle of your degree programme, you will delve deeper into the clinical disciplines:

  • Internal medicine, Chirurgie, Gynaecology and paediatrics are the focus

  • Practical exercises take place directly in the partner clinics of the University of Zagreb

The aim is to combine theory with real patient situations - under the supervision of doctors and teaching staff.

5th-6th year of study: The specialisation and in-depth phase

In the final stage of your studies, the focus is on specialisation and preparation for starting your career:

  • You take electives according to your interests, for example in Dermatologyneurology or Oncology
