University of Split - Medical studies with the German-Croatian model

The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Split was originally founded in 1974 as part of the University of Zagreb and is now one of the most renowned members of European university networks in the field of medicine. Since 2011, the Medical School has been offering the English-language degree programme "Medical Studies in English" - and a unique cooperation model with German clinics has been in place since 2016: In the so-called "partner programme", students start their studies in Split and continue them in Germany from the 4th year of study (clinical section).

What is the partner programme?

Students who receive one of the approximately 60-70 study places in the partner programme first complete the pre-clinical years (1st - 3rd year) at the Medical School in Split. There they benefit from teaching in small groups (5 - 6 people), a structured curriculum and intensive preparation for the clinical phase.

From the 4th year onwards, students move to the partner network's teaching hospitals in Germany - particularly in the regions of southern Thuringia and Upper Franconia. Students are supervised by local doctors, take part in everyday clinical practice and complete their practical training in German - with full academic support from the University of Split. The title "Medical Doctor" is awarded upon successful completion of the programme and is recognised throughout the EU.

For many applicants, this model represents an excellent combination: an international start to their studies on the Adriatic coast - and early integration into the German healthcare system. Tuition fees in the partner programme amount to €6,000 per semester, with a variety of financing options available through the hospital network, such as scholarships or a specialist training programme that covers the costs.

Central features of the Faculty of Medicine in Split:

  • Study start without NC - A-levels are enough

  • German-Croatian partner programme with practice from the 4th year onwards

  • Small group lessons (5-6 students)

  • Strong research activities in Oncology and molecular genetics

  • English-language curriculum with structured course sequence

  • EU-wide recognised qualification with excellent prospects
