At the Faculty of Medicine in Pecs, it is possible to start studying medicine in both English and German. Today, the University of Pecs has around 20,000 students, of which around 4,500 are international students from 70 countries. In order to provide sufficient space for the students, the new state-of-the-art campus was opened, which also includes a brand new theory building. New lecture theatres, seminar rooms, common rooms and new innovative laboratories have been built here.
The study of human medicine and dentistry at the University of Pécs is comparable to that in other European countries such as Germany and Austria - although Hungarian is also taught as a subject to facilitate contact with patients.

The history of the University of Pécs dates back to 1367, although teaching was discontinued under Ottoman rule. In 1921, the university began operating as a state university and has been offering human medicine and dentistry in English at the Faculty of Medicine since 1984. Due to the alignment with the German curriculum, many students begin their studies there and, if a place is available, there is the option of transferring to Germany to complete their degree there.
However, many students also complete their studies at the Medical University of Pécs, as they particularly appreciate the student life and the infrastructure in the historic city.
The study of human medicine and dentistry at the University of Pécs is equivalent to that in other European countries such as Germany and Austria.
The study of human medicine at the Medical University of Pécs lasts six years and follows the curriculum established in Hungary valid curriculum, dentistry can be completed in five years.
Study languages include English and German.
The degree programme and the professional doctorate obtained are fully recognised in Germany, Austria and all other EU countries.
According to the EU Directive 2005/36/EC, nothing stands in the way of starting specialist training after graduation.
