The University of Szeged combines over 140 years of tradition with modern, multilingual teaching. The Human Medicine and Dentistry programmes can be studied in Hungarian and English. The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Szeged can look back on over 140 years of history. Today it is one of the most prestigious medical universities in Central Eastern Europe. The faculty is known for its multilingual study programmes in human medicine and dentistry - in Hungarian, English and German. The German-language Human Medicine degree programme makes Szeged particularly interesting for applicants from Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

Enrolment and application fees

For the English-language degree programme, there is a one-off application and examination fee of 300 € to. This covers the application and participation in the science entrance test.
For the German-language programme, the Application fee 200 €.
After authorisation, a Registration fee of 220 € to be paid.

In addition to tuition fees, everyday expenses should also be calculated realistically. In Szeged, the cost of living excluding rent is around 300 to 340 € per month. This includes expenses for food, public transport, learning materials, mobile phones and the internet as well as leisure activities such as cafés, cinema or sport.

Application process & requirements

Admission to the University of Szeged independent of the NC. There are separate admission procedures for the German and English-language programmes.

Requirements for the English-language programme

For the English-language degree programme Compulsory entrance examination. This consists of a written science test (biology, chemistry, general and biomedical English) and a personal interview (online via Zoom). The letter of motivation and the English-language application documents are also mandatory.

Requirements for the German-language programme

For the German-language programme, selection takes place in a separate procedure in which no scientific test is required. Instead, a Individual selection processwhich is based on the motivation and suitability of the applicant. A personal interview is often part of the selection process.

Application deadlines for medical studies in Szeged

The University of Szeged uses a Ongoing selection procedure. Those who apply in good time have a better chance of securing a place on the programme. Annual deadlines apply for the German-language programme in particular.

Entrance exam & preparation

English-language programme

After your application documents have been accepted, you will be invited to take the entrance examination. This consists of a written multiple-choice test with questions on biology, chemistry, general English and biomedical English. German language programme

There is a separate admission procedure for the German-language medical degree programme in Szeged. The exact requirements vary slightly, but generally do not include a classic written examination. Instead, the focus is on the written application, personal suitability and communication with the university.

Career after graduation & licence to practise in Germany

How does the recognition process work in Germany?

A degree in medicine from the University of Szeged is highly valued - both by German employers and international institutions. Due to EU-wide recognition in accordance with Directive 2005/36/EC, people with a corresponding university entrance qualification can apply directly for a licence to practise medicine in Germany after completing their studies. Additional proof of individual subjects or post-study is generally not necessary, as long as all information on the certificate, curriculum and duration of study is complete.
