Programme structure: Duration, content and language of instruction

The full-time degree programme lasts 12 semesters (6 years). You can start the programme in the summer or winter semester. The language of instruction is English throughout the programme, which means that students are not only well prepared for an international career in terms of their subject, but also linguistically.

The programme structure combines traditional lectures with practice-based units in small groups, supplemented by:

• Regular interim tests

• Practical exercises in the laboratory and clinic

• Intensive care by specialised medical staff

Degrees: MUDr. and MDDr. at a glance

Upon successful completion, students are awarded the following academic titles:

• MUDr. (medicinae universae doctor) for the Humanmedizin Studium - corresponds to the Austrian Dr med. univ.

• MDDr. (medicinae dentalis doctor) for dentistry

Both titles can be used throughout the EU. The degree enables you to apply directly for a licence to practise medicine.

Studying medicine in Bratislava: certificates and practical relevance

At least 30 ECTS credits must be earned per semester. These are awarded through examinations in various subjects. The timetable is tightly organised and places great emphasis on regular performance reviews and practical lessons.

Even though medical lessons are taught in English, Slovakian is a compulsory subject in the first two years. This is because some of the communication with patients in the local clinics is in Slovakian. However, we know from the experience of our students that the doctors treating them always endeavour to facilitate patient contact in English or German.

The language course teaches students basic forms of expression and medical vocabulary - specially tailored for later use in a clinical environment. This not only enables integration in everyday hospital life, but also in everyday life in Bratislava.

Everyday study life: structure and learning rhythm

Everyday learning is clearly structured and highly practical. Students complete a mix of theory, practice and examination formats, which enables an even learning load and continuous consolidation of knowledge.

Admission test for admission to Comenius University Bratislava

To be admitted to the medical degree programme at Comenius University Bratislava, you must pass an entrance test. This multiple-choice test ensures that applicants have the necessary basic knowledge of biology and chemistry to successfully start their studies.

Test structure: This is how the test works

• A total of 200 multiple-choice questions

  • 100 questions from biology

  • 100 questions from chemistry

• The questions are asked in English.

• The question catalogue comprises 1,000 questions (500 per subject area), from which the 200 examination questions are selected at random.
