Human medicine is one of the most popular degree programmes for international students in Slovakia, and rightly so. The medical degree programme lasts 6 years and is divided into 12 semesters. Graduates are awarded the title "Doctor of General Medicine" (MUDr.), which is recognised not only in the European Union, but almost everywhere in the world. Most schools and universities in Slovakia are state-run. The education system is considered very good compared to other developed countries abroad. Therefore, more and more people interested in medicine decide to study medicine in Slovakia.

A total of approximately 710 medical study places are reserved for international students in Slovakia each year. Of these, about 635 are places for the English-language study abroad programme in human medicine and 75 are places for the English-language study abroad programme in dentistry. Students form groups of 8-15 (depending on the medical university) in which they complete seminars or internships. International students can start specialist training as a doctor in Germany or Austria after their studies abroad in Slovakia.
